Easier, Safer Printing with Microsoft and Canon Print Assistant
Printing is getting an upgrade.
Microsoft is changing the way Windows computers handle printers. Their new Modern Print Platform makes printing simpler and safer by removing the need for complicated printer drivers. This is especially important for newer devices like those running on Windows Co-Pilot or ARM-based processors, where old-style drivers don’t always work.
The downside? Microsoft’s built-in printing option is very basic. You lose access to many helpful features found on Canon multifunction printers, like stapling or secure printing.
That’s why Canon created the Canon Print Assistant App.
What the Canon Print Assistant Does
This free app installs automatically on Windows 11 when you add a supported Canon printer. It gives you:
- Extra features – like stapling, adding watermarks and rotating pages
- Secure printing – so sensitive documents don’t print until you’re ready
- Document preview – see what the printout will look like before you print
- Full access to Canon’s advanced settings that the basic Windows option doesn’t show
Why You’ll Need Canon Print Assistant
Microsoft plans to make Protected Print Mode mandatory in the future. This will block older printer drivers that aren’t as secure. Without Canon Print Assistant, you may lose access to the features you rely on.
Canon Print Assistant also ensures your Canon printers stay fully compatible with the latest Windows technology, including new ARM-based devices, Windows Co-Pilot laptops, and Protected Print Mode. This means your printers will continue to work properly and keep all their advanced features as Microsoft rolls out these changes.
For businesses using uniFLOW Online, Canon also provides a Virtual Printer App. This works the same way as Canon Print Assistant but is built specifically for secure print queues and adds extra protection for Zero Trust environments, making it ideal for organisations with stricter security needs.
