The time to focus on business transformation is NOW
By Lawrence Breen
What a strange few years it’s been. Finally, COVID lockdowns seem to be in the rear view mirror (please!). However, for business, the flow-on effects of supply chain dramas, turbulent markets, and lower consumer/business confidence still indicate there may be uncertain times ahead.
Focus on what you can control
Those who have worked with me know that I am an eternal optimist. I always believe that if you take the right steps to manage your business, you’ll put yourself in the best position to succeed.
Most of the factors I mentioned above are out of our control. Therefore, all we can do is focus on those areas we can control, i.e. delivering the best possible value for our clients.
Gaining that control starts with how we manage our own affairs internally. When working with clients, we see that internal processes (or lack thereof!) often cause headaches for staff and clients. Especially now, as new challenges are thrown at us, ensuring we know where our data is and how it is stored can be the difference between delivering for a client or completely missing the mark.
Transform your business
Information is the lifeblood of all businesses. At Inland Digital, we’re no different. Over many years, we have focused on ensuring automated document management and data processes are in place to guarantee access to information when and where we need it. It’s also helped us identify and eliminate bottlenecks or flawed processes. I’ve written about this before: It is most likely the single most important internal project we’ve ever delivered.
It’s worth thinking about your own data. How are you storing information? Is it still on a legacy physical hard drive? Is it on staff members’ laptops? Where is it, and can you access it quickly and efficiently when needed? Are all your software platforms sharing data easily? As you can see, there are many questions to ponder.
It might sound complex, but it doesn’t need to be. You can take steps to ensure that vital business information is secure and easily accessible so your team can use it to deliver more value for your clients.
Everything ‘as a service’
I won’t mention the word ‘cloud’. Of course, everything should be in the cloud in today’s digital environment. It amazes me, however, how many businesses still store information on individual laptops and hard drives. That’s a massive risk for so many reasons!
One small step you can take today is to check where your data is and how quickly you can access it. If you aren’t using applications in a SaaS model, then you need to revisit your platforms and how you’re operating. Starting there can give you some real advantages.
